Laundry symbols chart
Every care symbol you will find on a clothing label, grouped by its shape. Tap a symbol for what it means and what to do, or let the laundry symbol scanner read your tag for you.
How to read the chart
Five shapes cover everything: a tub for washing, a triangle for bleach, a square for drying, an iron for ironing and a circle for professional cleaning. Three marks change their meaning:
- Dots are heat. More dots, hotter water, iron or dryer.
- Lines underneath make the cycle gentler. One line for permanent press, two for delicates.
- A cross means do not.

US and European care labels
The US follows ASTM D5489 and Europe, the UK and most of Asia follow ISO 3758. The shapes are the same, with a few differences:
| Instruction | US (ASTM) | Europe (ISO) |
|---|---|---|
| Wash temperature | Dots in the tub | Number in °C |
| Line dry | Curved line at the top of the square | One vertical line |
| Drip dry | Three vertical lines | Two vertical lines |
| Bleach | Triangle, often with CL inside | Plain triangle |
| Dry cleaning limits | Written in words | Lines under the circle |
